This program provides campers with the opportunity to lace up their shoes and head to the court, gym, pool, cliff, river, tee, lake, or field for fun-filled days. Campers will gain a new appreciation for sports while developing important skills through drills, skill progressions and game experiences. Beginning to intermediate sport instruction and daily recreation activities combine for a balanced camp experience. 2.5 hours each day will be spent learning and playing a specific sport while the remaining time is spent playing recreational games, rock climbing, swimming, and discovering the many opportunities available at the University of Minnesota.
Registration for programs will begin on February 9, 2009 and will continue until all camps are full. Please note that many camps fill quickly!

Archery [back to top] Learn discipline and marksmanship in the challenging sport of archery. Campers will develop technique with a keen eye. As BWANA Archery is a 'game oriented' business, campers may at times have the option of practicing their skills on artificial animals. Please speak to children about this possibility prior to registering. If children are not comfortable targeting game animals, they will have the option of shooting at conventional targets and balloons. This program is offered in cooperation with BWANA Archery. |

Judo/Jujistu [back to top] Judo is the top individual participant sport in the world and an Olympic sport. Combining judo skills and the sport aspect of judo with its parent art of Jujitsu gives youth valuable self defense skills for today's too frequently dangerous environment. Campers will learn to avoid, escape, and fight off the most common forms of attack, from being grabbed to being hit. They will also learn critical falling and 'going to the ground' skills. This class addresses the psychological and physical nature of attack and defense. It requires students to adopt a 'mature' attitude about the realities and responsibilities of defense. The physical aspects are sometimes 'rough and tumble', although not violent. Parents are encouraged to take this into consideration and discuss expectations prior to class. |
